A deferred date has been set for the implementation of the new Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act. On 1st October 2024 it is proposed that this Act will make it unlawful for employers to withhold gratuities from their workers and ensure that tips are allocated fairly amongst all staff, including those on zero-hour contracts. Here’s what the new legislation means for the hospitality industry and how it will impact operations.
The new Deposit Return Scheme in Ireland is launching on 1st February 2024. The scheme's purpose is to incentivise consumers to recycle single use containers, by forcing consumers to pay a deposit fee when purchasing refreshments contained in these materials. The fee is a refundable deposit that consumers can claim back if they return the empty containers to any collection points.
From 1st January 2024, there are a series of new legal requirements for certain businesses in Denmark to improve their POS and register sales with digital cash registers. The legal requirement will force businesses to declare all sales information in a digital form called SAF-T (Standard Audit File For Tax) when requested by authorities. 
According to the latest report from Barclays, consumer card spending at pubs, bars and clubs grew 8.4% year-on-year during June. That’s the biggest increase for the on-trade since January this year.
